Industry glossary
The logistics, transport and module terms that come up most, explained in plain language. To understand a quote or a conversation with the carrier without getting lost.
- Palletizing
- Cargo arranged and secured on pallets to ease handling with a forklift and optimize space in the truck.
- Consolidated cargo (LTL)
- A mode where several loads from different clients share the same truck. Each pays for the space they use. Ideal for small volumes.
- FTL (full truck load)
- The cargo takes an exclusive truck for a single client. Worth it when there is enough volume to fill the unit.
- LTL (less than truck load)
- The cargo does not fill a truck and is combined with others. It is the same as consolidated cargo.
- MIC/DTA
- International Cargo Manifest / Customs Transit Declaration. The document covering the international road transit of goods within Mercosur.
- CRT
- International Waybill. The international road transport contract; it identifies sender, consignee, carrier and goods.
- Cristo Redentor Pass
- The main heavy-cargo border crossing between Mendoza (Argentina) and Chile, through the international tunnel at 3,200 m altitude. Also called Los Libertadores Pass.
- Folding module
- A housing module that travels folded and deploys on site with no civil works. It allows many units per truck and fast assembly.
- Expandable module
- A module that arrives the size of a container and opens on site, multiplying its livable surface. It prioritizes interior space per unit.
- Sandwich panel
- A construction panel of two metal sheets with an insulating core in the middle (rock wool, polyurethane). Used in modules for thermal insulation and light weight.
- Rock wool
- A thermal and acoustic insulating material that is fireproof. In quality modules, Class A is used for high-altitude and cold-weather camps.
- Turnkey camp
- An integral solution providing the complete camp —dormitories, bathrooms, dining hall, offices— ready to use, sized to the project headcount.
- Oversized cargo
- Cargo exceeding the standard allowed dimensions or weight. It requires special transit permits and, sometimes, an escort.
- RMI
- Rig move (dismantle, move and assemble). The service of moving large equipment (e.g., drilling rigs) from one location to another, common in oil & gas.
- Owned fleet
- Trucks belonging to the transport company, not subcontracted. It means the company answers directly for the unit, the driver and the timing.
